Jewel Thomas signs with the Warriors
August 11, 2011
Fort Wayne, IN – Indiana Tech Track and Field is proud to announce the addition of Jewel Thomas (Lathrup Village, MI/Lathrup
Village HS). Jewel is an accomplished 100/200 runner with a personal best time of 12.05 in the 100. Jewel finished 3rd at the
Michigan Division 1 State meet in the 100 as a senior and was State runner-up as a junior.

Coach Edgar on Jewel: “We really got a great person and athlete in Jewel. She makes what was already an amazing sprint
group event stronger and will really allow people to focus on their main events. She was the captain of her team last year and I
really expect her to bring that leadership to our team. She works hard in the classroom and understands the meaning of being
a student-athlete.”

Jewel is currently undecided on her major.   To read entire article

State champion high jumper shares hidden talent

"You gotta be constantly looking to improve, whether you're in
the back of the field, the middle of the field, or especially in the
front," Willis explained.

The jump that won Dartis the State Championship measured 6
feet 11 inches. To put that in perspective, he could have jumped
over Ben Wallace - minus the afro - and still had two inches to
spare. Those kind of performances were par for the course and
the reason college coaches came calling.

2011 AAU/ESPN National Club Championship Medalists
(Those highlighted in red received an AAU Medal and an ESPN medal for placing 1st - 3rd)
Training is the most demanding part of a track athlete's career (not the day of competition, as most people think).  Training workouts are
designed to tear down an athletes muscles.  The bodies response to the breaking down of the muscles is not only to repair them, but to make
them stronger so that they can withstand the demands that are being place on them.  And through the season the workouts intensify in order
to see continual improvement in an athletes ability to perform.

An athletes body needs energy to meet the demands of the intense workouts that the they go through.  Without getting into too much detail the
main source of that energy comes from the foods that an athlete eats.  Foods that contain "CARBOHYDRATES" are the most important  part of
the diet for an athlete.

If the athletes don't have enough CARBS in them, their bodies will not have the energy that is needed for them to work as hard as the planned
workout is demanding.  Subsequently they will not get as strong as they could get (because they don't have the energy).  This could be why you
see athletes die out early during a work out session.
